Surangi's post is about Britain trying to introduce holographic security guards at airports. I think this is a wonderful topic because it really is something that folks can have a debate over. Whenever something new is done with technology, it always catches a little flack, and I think this is largely because all technology is fairly new, so people don't completely know how to receive it. People don't always like change, as it can seem scary sometimes. Like, today, it can be holographic security guards, tomorrow it could be robots taking over the human race. But others openly welcome new technology because it can be seen as an improvement on whatever was being done before. Like Surangi says in her post, the security guards would "reduce the costs associated with human labor." So if some airport employees are replaced with holograms, the people who pay the workers will save quite a few dollars. I'm sure they'll love that. I don't get why she would not take the holograms seriously, though. After all, they're only going to be used to relay certain airport policies; they're not going to be the kind of security that chases down bad guys. Now that, I would not take seriously. But if they're just spilling information, that would be just like reading a sign that says the same thing. Or like the lady at the self-check-out lines at the grocery store that says "please scan your items." I take her and her job with the utmost seriousness. Overall, awesome post!
